Overlooked Films: Mike Hammer in MY GUN IS QUICK (Watch it here!)

Here, from 1957, is the third of Mike's six big screen outings. Star Robert Bray was later a regular on the TV series Stagecoach West and guest-starred on a passel of western and other shows before finishing his career as a regular on Lassie. Co-writer credit on the screenplay went to Richard Powell, author of the hardboiled novels A Shot in the Dark and Say It With Bullets

So, what do you think of the film?

You wouldn't happen to have the one Spillane played Hammer would you?
That's the only one I haven't seen.
Thanks for this one.

I have this one. Haven't watched it in 20 yrs. but remember it as being awful. Bray is not Mike Hammer and (after a fairly effective, faithful opening sequence) the blandly directed film throws a terrific novel's plot out the window for a lame screenplay. A complete waste of talent and time.

I liked the book.

Possibly Wrong Rick: YouTube doesn't seem to have THE GIRL HUNTERS up, but if you have Amazon Prime, Jeff Bezos is denying air conditioning so as to boast of free access for us to this odd bit of film:

I'll go take a look. Thank you...

I too would like to see The Girl Hunters, but I'm too cheap for Amazon Prime. I've only seen the first half of My Gun in Quick (so far), but disliked it less than Steve.

I didn't think it was bad, although there are some who claim my critical facilities are nil. But we have the bitchin' Ford Fairlanes, the lucious babes, the blaring jazz, and the noirish night scenes. Add in a few fights and a serviceable plot and you have a movie.
